on footrings and hanging platters

We have 2 lovely platters made by Daphne Hatcher, a potter in East Texas. They are each about 18" across and look great on the wall.

But we also enjoy using them on the table when entertaining.

Daphne has made wonderful footrings that sit well on the table and hang easily on the wall--in any direction.

The bold footring is undercut generously to hang on a hook in any direction.

we have one of daphne's platters and i always have thought those footrings were the coolest thing. i've tried to incorporate that into my platter feet but it just doesn't work with mine.

Hi, Brandon, thanks for your visit to my blog. I've wished to have a chance to meet you someday--before you take off for MN! Sorry to hear that you've worked with Daphne's footrings without success. I've used them--but I have not made a platter of that size yet. I love having them on these platters so we can easliy take them up and down and turn in any direction.

oh, we'll be here a couple more years yet. the thing with the footring is just an aesthetic thing for me. i have fairly short footrings with a pretty strong bevel, so there just isn't room in there structurally. eh, what can you do.

I like that idea. I saw Richard Aerni do it at a workshop once, and we also have a plate by David Frith from Wales that incorporates it. I could certainly do it with my thrown on feet. Thanks for sharing.
Those are some really nice platters.

great footings, it's good to see that. Interesting.
I like your majolica bowls, I did it at the place where I was apprenticed but although I love it to look at it doesn't grab me as a process.
Look forward to seeing more though.

I feel so supported by you, dear blogging friends. The world seems so big sometimes and so very small other times. Feels small and warm right now. Thanks!

What a great idea. I'm not a fan of cutting holes to hang and I really like this. Thanks-Don't give up drawing pictures on pots if that's what you like-keep at it and you'll find what works for you. One idea even if you don't find it successful often leads to others that are.

Thanks, Deborah, I am painting pictures on another pot--in spite of my declarations! The majolica seems to call for 'pictures' though I seen some lovely work that is just color and design...
